empire's top 500

Everyone loves a good list. And Empire magazine has taken that philosophy to its natural conclusion in their latest issue with an 82 page list-gasm of the '500 greatest movies of all time'.
some thoughts:
Evil dead 2 is better than 8 and a half, lawrence of arabia, sunset boulevard and tokyo story. Obviously.

There are 18 comic book movies in this list, admirably including ghost world.

Pirates of the Carribean 2 is in it.

No film of this millenium broke the top ten, the highest being it 15. Guess which 500 million film about a man dressed as a bat that was.

While we're on the subject, the Dark Knight beat Star Wars. Because it's better.

And who were the jokers who voted for Big trouble in little China? WTF

It seems to be a slightly chauvinistic affair. great films aimed at the fairer sex did quite badly, Breakfast at Tiffany's and Atonement didn't break the 300's, and the highest placed film with a clear female lead is Gone with the wind at 31, whilst the top ten reeks of testosterone.

Admittedly this is quite a nit-picking post, and I should say that I think for a public list this is very good.

first post.

so, i have a lot of time on my hands and after passing on several more constructive ideas that involve earning money, I decided to start this, a space to air my thoughts, rants and grievances about the medium that produced 'bio-dome'.

I'll review new films - according to the british release schedule, in other words after everyone else - and do lists and other nifty features when and where I think of them. Also expect reactionary posts that deal with something movie related that ticks me off. Expect many of these.

well, thats my introduction and the only thing left to say is read when you can, be nice when you can and only swear in the comments if you absolutely have to.
