I have a theory as to why this film has done badly in the US. People are too embarrassed to actually purchase a ticket. I can relate, as asking for a single to ' Zack and miri make a porno' was an awkward endeavour indeed. Like Buffy the vampire slayer never won any emmy's because it was called Buffy the vampire slayer, this movie's painfully honest title came back to bite it in the ass. Aside from all that, is it actually worth you're trouble. Mostly. It'll make you laugh, but it's not a great movie. Too much mawkishness, and a third act that simply couldn't be bothered. But the positive things first, Justin Long's cameo is the best thing in this film by a mile. Its very broad, but Its gold and its shame he's limited to about two minutes of screen-time. As for the leads, Seth Rogen is in danger of becoming the new Will Ferrell unless he mixes up his roles, because he's doing the same thing in every film he's in and this is not good for a long-term plan. Elizabeth Banks does well in what might be her most high profile role yet, but is more good then great. The real fun came in the supporting cast, from the Office's Craig Robinson relishing getting more then one scene, to Jason Mewes (Jay for Jay and silent bob) who manages to be funny in his very marginilsed role. Noticeably, Smith's dialogue wasn't quite as good as it has previously been, which is a shame because he writes dialogue usually so well.
All in all, this is to Smith what Burn after Reading was to the Coen Brothers. Its entertaining but he's made better films and its lazy and sudden conclusion takes it from a 7 to a 6.
